We pick you up in Zagreb in the morning and set you off in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle, so all you need to do is sit back and enjoy the ride. On the way, your local guide goes beyond textbook history, telling stories about everyday Croatian life, customs, and culture that give you a genuine feel for the country.

Rastoke: A Village Built on Water

Our first stop comes before the busy part of the day: Rastoke, a charming 17th-century mill village nicknamed "the Small Lakes of Plitvice." Here, old houses and watermills sit right on top of flowing rivers and small waterfalls. Your guide will take you over wooden footbridges past turquoise pools and explain how the villagers have built their lives around the water for hundreds of years. It's a peaceful place to stretch, grab a coffee, and listen to the cascades.

Plitvice Lakes

From Rastoke, we continue directly to Plitvice Lakes National Park, one of Europe's best-known UNESCO World Heritage sites. Thanks to an early arrival and a well-planned route, you'll explore the park while it's quieter, avoiding the worst of the crowds.

Together with your guide, you'll walk an 8.5 km (5.5 mi) route along the famous wooden walkways, taking in 16 connected lakes whose colors shift from bright turquoise to rich emerald. You'll stand at the foot of the Great Waterfall (Veliki Slap), the park's most powerful cascade, and cross one of the lakes on a quiet electric boat. At the end, a panoramic shuttle bus brings you back to the starting point, saving you the walk back.

An Easy Ride Home

Once you've soaked up the scenery, simply return to the vehicle for the roughly two-hour drive back to Zagreb. Use the time to look through your photos, ask your guide anything you didn't get to, or just rest your eyes.
