About this crossing
From Dubrovnik's Gruž port through the Adriatic into the dramatic Bay of Kotor, one of Europe's most striking fjord-like inlets. Mountains rise straight out of the water on either side, dotted with medieval villages and the odd tiny island church.
The crossing combines an open-sea stretch with the calmer, scenic glide into the Bay itself, ending at the UNESCO-listed walled town of Kotor. Once on shore you can climb the medieval ramparts up to St John's fortress for one of the best views on the Adriatic, wander the cobbled alleys, or pause for a coffee at sea level before the return trip.
Bring your passport. Montenegro is outside the EU, but the border check at sea is straightforward and quick. Allow a little extra time at boarding for the document check on this route.
The route runs seasonally with weekly departures in summer. Works equally well as a day trip with a same-day return, or as a one-way leg if your itinerary continues south through Montenegro.
